THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE HONORARY CONSULATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA IN ASPEN, COLORADO ON MARCH 9, 2013
On March 9, 2013, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania was opened in Aspen, Colorado, led by Honorary Consul John Vytautas Prunskis M.D. It is the 8th Lithuanian Consulate to be opened in the United States of America and the first ever Honorary Consulate established in the city of Aspen.
The official opening ceremony was held at Gondola Plaza Square and included speeches of Hon. Consul of Lithuania John V. Prunskis M.D., Ms. Amy Margerum Berg, Executive Vice President of development and Operations for the Aspen Institute, Mr. Mike Kaplan, President & CEO of Aspen Skiing Company, The Honorable Mick Ireland, Mayor of Aspen, Colorado, His Excellency Zygimantas Pavilionis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United States of America, and traditional folk dance performed by dances from American-Lithuanian Community from Denver, Colorado and Lithuanian songs performed by vocalist Narimantas Gruzdys. /opening ceremony slideshow/
The event was followed by a reception at the Lounge of Limelight Hotel, which is the official partner of Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Aspen, Colorado.
The event was joined by Jonathan Warren, Hon. Consul of Monaco in Las Vegas, Paulina Biggs Sparkul, Hon. Consul for Chile in Las Vegas, Astra Julianne Michels, Hon. Consul of Lithuania in Nevada, Daiva Cekanauskas-Navarrette, Hon. Consul of Lithuania in California, Vytautas Victor Lapatinskas, Hon. Consul of Lithuania in Washington. Also participating were local politicians, journalists, businessmen and artists.
John W. Hickenlooper, the Governor of Colorado State presented the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania with a letter of congratulations.
Hon. Consul John V. Prunskis M.D. also received greetings from Lithuania’s first Head of State Vytautas Landsbergis and former President Valdas Adamkus.
Hon. Consul John V. Prunskis M.D. was also elected the Dean of the Consular Corps of Aspen, Colorado.
